Joan, have you read Bruiser by Neal Shusterman? Similar concept to that wonderful episode "The Empath" from the original Star Trek, in that a person is so empathetic, they absorb the pain and hurt from people they're close to. I gave it to a student a few years back and it was hardly on the shelf for the rest of the school year thanks to word of mouth.

World Book Night is apparently still going strong...in England. : ( I loved handing out books.

I am looking for fiction books that
focus on empathy that would be good for a whole town
read.  I thought maybe we could do World Book Night,
but it appears that they are out of business.  Does
anyone have any suggestions?  I would like to also have
 an author visit.  Thanks, Joan
