Hi all,

I was hoping any of you at the K-5 level could share how your district handles those end-of-year overdues.

Right now we send home overdue notices each week with students, but stopped check out May 26th. On June 5th we mailed the overdue notices home with a price to pay in case it was indeed lost. These past weeks, I’ve followed up with phone calls home with 3 choices: pay for the book, buy it yourself and donate the replacement book, or donate a comparable, high-interest, hardcover book appropriate for the age level that’s in very good condition. Still not much luck even with those options…

We are leaving the year with a large amount of overdues. I’m curious if your districts with-hold report cards, or limit book check out in the fall for those who still have overdues? Do you follow up again in fall or give names to your administrators to handle next steps? I’d love to hear what is working for you!

Thank you in advance and happy summer!
