How do you come up with fresh ideas for giving some of your fortune away? Well, if you’re Jeff Bezos<http://action.everylibrary.org/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Ftopics.nytimes.com%2Ftop%2Freference%2Ftimestopics%2Fpeople%2Fb%2Fjeffrey_p_bezos%2Findex.html%3Finline%3Dnyt-per&e=2673d625b79ee07495c1ec13576ef1fa&utm_source=votelibraries&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=jeffbezos&n=3>, the founder and chief executive of Amazon.com<http://amazon.com/>, you fire up Twitter<http://action.everylibrary.org/r?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FEveryLibrary%2Fstatus%2F875777634453639169&e=2673d625b79ee07495c1ec13576ef1fa&utm_source=votelibraries&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=jeffbezos&n=4>, naturally.

On Thursday, Mr. Bezos sent a tweet <http://action.everylibrary.org/r?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FEveryLibrary%2Fstatus%2F875777634453639169&e=2673d625b79ee07495c1ec13576ef1fa&utm_source=votelibraries&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=jeffbezos&n=5> to his more than 222,000 followers asking for suggestions for philanthropic giving. He specifically asked for ideas that could help the world in the near term, a contrast to long-term personal investments he has made in for-profit companies with social impact, like Blue Origin, a space firm, and The Washington Post.

Mr. Bezos wrote<http://action.everylibrary.org/r?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FEveryLibrary%2Fstatus%2F875777634453639169&e=2673d625b79ee07495c1ec13576ef1fa&utm_source=votelibraries&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=jeffbezos&n=6>, “I’m thinking I want much of my philanthropic activity to be helping people in the here and now — short term — at the intersection of urgent need and lasting impact.”

Of course, at EveryLibrary, there’s nothing more urgent than funding for libraries. As we all know, libraries provide a wide range of services to the public that improves the quality of life in America. Millions of American’s use libraries to find new jobs, build new skills, and educate themselves. That’s why we would love to ask for your help to boost our voice in order to reach this billionaire on behalf of libraries across the country. You can help us spread the word about libraries by retweeting our response<http://action.everylibrary.org/r?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FEveryLibrary%2Fstatus%2F875777634453639169&e=2673d625b79ee07495c1ec13576ef1fa&utm_source=votelibraries&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=jeffbezos&n=7> to Mr. Bezos as well as adding your own tweets asking him to support libraries and EveryLibrary. Thank you for helping us expand our reach and our voice!
