Working with Patrons with Mental Health Conditions
This workshop will help participants to understand the signs, symptoms and origins of severe and persistent mental health conditions.  It will outline recommendations for strategies to effectively serve and communicate with library patrons that may be exhibiting signs of a mental health condition.
At the conclusion of the training you will be able to:
*         Discuss symptoms of persistent mental health conditions
*         Discuss the current understanding of the causes of mental health conditions
*         Discuss effective strategies for working with patrons that may have a mental health condition
This free workshop is taking place at the West Haven Public Library, 300 Elm St., West Haven, CT 06516 on Friday, March 31 from 9 am to 11 am.
Library security service personnel are also invited and encouraged to attend this session.


Richard Fisher, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), has over 35 years' experience in behavioral health services as a clinician, supervisor and manager.  He is currently the director of Education and Training for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.  He is a former clinical instructor in psychiatry for the UCONN Health Center and is an adjunct faculty member at the UCONN School of Social Work graduate program, and an instructor at the New England School of Addiction Studies.  He maintains a private practice in West Hartford.
