Hi, Peter!Congratulations! The first thing I recommend doing is taking the time to put routines in place. Model the routines and have learners practice. Ask students what they noticed about how everyone did with the practice. Give learners time to explore the library and map out where books are located. They can report back to the whole group what types of books they found and where they are located. Check out books to kids as soon as possible. If you can on day 1, they will be so excited!Attend all grade level/curriculum meetings. Think about how you can help support classroom learning.
That's it for now. Focus on the basics, that way you won't get overwhelmed. In the meantime, keep in touch.I am happy to help wherever I can! Maureen SchlosserContent WriterDigital PortfolioAuthor: AASL Standards Based Learning for Primary Grades: 21 Lessons Inspired by Picture Books

Hello all!
I am a new LMS, and getting ready to take over my first library at Mary Morrisson Elementary in Groton after 5 years in the classroom.  Do you have any suggestions, ideas, or cautionary tales to share with a newbie?  I would love your take on important things to focus as the new year begins.  Thank you for any advice and insights!
