Hi Marybeth and all...

Please don't forget about all the digitized historic Connecticut newspapers we make available to you through the State Library's Digital Collections<http://cslib.cdmhost.com/digital/> page, the Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project<http://ctdigitalnewspaperproject.org/> and through researchIT CT<https://researchitct.org/>.

The direct link to our Newspapers of Connecticut collection (which is mainly Civil War era) is: http://cslib.cdmhost.com/digital/collection/p15019coll9

You can search by Title, Town or Topic. On the topic list you will see Anti-Slavery and Slavery.

The Anti-Slavery newspapers include:
The Charter Oak
Free Soil Advocate
Free Soil Pioneer
North & South
Slave's Cry
Ultimatum

Slavery papers include:
Charter Oak
Free Soil Pioneer

Connecticut Humanities also has a great project called Teach IT<http://teachitct.org/> which we have added content to. I did a search on Slavery and came up with a number of inquiry-based activities using CT primary sources you may like: http://teachitct.org/?s=slavery .

Best,
Gail

Subject: [CASL-L] primary source documents

Hello to the collective wisdom of CASL,

A teacher/student teacher asked me to help research primary documents relevant to Antebellem America. "Students will seek and cite quotes from slave narratives, pro-slavery, and abolitionist perspectives."

I am directing her to the History Reference database on researchitct.org
We also have some print resources.
I have started to find relevant websites, but I don't want to miss anything.

If anyone has done similar research projects with middle school and is willing to share some online tools, I would be happy to share what I have as well!

Thank you,
Marybeth
