Dear AASL,

John Burke would like school librarians to take a survey for a book he's
writing below the description and link is the description of his hopes and
goals.

For a book that I am writing on technologies in libraries, I am curious to
learn more about the most common technologies and technology skills used by
librarians and library staff members. I ask you to help me in this effort
by taking a brief survey on the technologies and technology skills you use
in your everyday work. I am very interested in hearing from librarians and
library staff members from various types and sizes of libraries. In fact,
there is an optional second survey linked at the end of this one if you are
interested in telling me a bit about how specific technologies are used in
your library.

I would appreciate you taking about five minutes to fill out the survey at
https://goo.gl/forms/4pYN7zbCHEzCU4RB2 (or the longer URL

Subject: Re: FW: [lita-l] Library technology skills survey

Debbie,

My hope in the survey is to gain input on what technologies librarians and
library staff members are using on a regular basis, how they keep up to date
and learn about new technologies, how they learn to use the technologies in
their libraries, what keeps them from adding or maintaining technologies,
and what they wish their libraries could have or that they knew how to do
themselves, with regards to technology. I use the insights I gain from the
survey to suggest what is common to the experience of those working in
libraries in their use of technologies, and also where there are differences
based on job characteristics or library types.

I have run the survey for three previous editions of the book, in 2008,
2012, and 2015. This time around I will also comment on changes and
constants in technology use and technology desires in the last ten years.

As I noted in my earlier email, I'd like to have a wider participation from
school librarians, so this would help me provide a more representative
sample of responses.

Thank you so much!

John
