My circulation of fiction runs around 400 books checked out per month.
I work closely with our English department for their choice book units,
which for the freshmen occur once a quarter. Example of some of the
Student choice units has been
memoirs, World War II, limited choice with book groups and teenage
protagonist to go with a research unit about the teen experience. I pull
the books and we do a speed dating
activity with the classes. During the speed dating time, I book talk some
on the ones I have read and try to make recommendations to individual
students who are having trouble finding their book.
After the activities, the students give their teachers their 1st and 2nd
choices. I work hard to make sure most students get their first choice. We
are a school of 1300 students and I have a healthy
book budget to be able to support the English department.
