*Grade levels 6,7,8
*Types/examples of projects: Intro to a new SS topic, i.e. Grade 6 SS: landforms; grade 6 Science: the geography of the poles after studying the poles and penguins (both are in the tour), grade 8 SS in preparation for a Revolutionary War Instagram project with tour titled "The American Revolution Begins," grade 7 Science: The Digestive System - after learning about the digestive system. (to name a few - I tried for variety here.)
*Are your students mostly consuming AR/VR or creating with it? So far, consuming. There has been talk of creating, but nothing yet. I should take the lead on that.
*Have you been able to easily find/make curriculum connections? Curriculum connections have been very easy to find. I have the topics the teachers are teaching, and I actively search for tours in the over 1,000 tours available on Google Expeditions.
*Have you found enough existing resources to make use of AR/VR easy and meaningful for teachers and students? Both the teachers and students have enthusiastically embraced this as it has added a visual connection that is often missing. They all love feeling like they are right there.
*What technology did you purchase and how did you acquire it (grants for example)? Our Central Office applied for a grant for a cart of 30 Google Expedition goggles. They gave my middle school the VR cart with 30 sets of goggles. My principal and STEM coordinator felt the library was the perfect place for them. ( I agreed)
*Have you been able to use the technology to support SEL and/or diversity education? This is less than a year old here, so I haven't had time to explore beyond the curriculum needs. I would like to spend more time, but our two middle schools are consolidating. Every spare minute Is spent weeding. (sorry off topic!)
*Were there any major concerns from teachers (time, # of students, implementation, etc.?) Teachers volunteer to bring their classes, but I actively seek them out. After the first couple teachers did it, more want to do it.
*Have you received any feedback from stakeholders on the use of this type of technology (positive or negative)? Only positive feedback that they love the multidimensional aspect, that it reaches all learners.
*Any other pros/cons? The battery charge can run out before the end of the fourth class. I have 4 classes/day when collaborating. I have to plan the time well so I can get them charging between classes. I try not to have more than two classes back to back.
