I second the James Swanson YA titles, and Chasing Vermeer.

 What about...
The Van Gogh Deception by Deron Hicks (not necessarily historical, but he might like it)Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett (not necessarily historical, but he might like it)Chasing Lincoln's Killer (DRA level 70), by James Swanson (Manhunt is the adult version)Chasing Kings Killer : The Hunt for Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Assassin (grades 7+) by James Swanson"The President Has Been Shot!": The Assassination of John F. Kennedy by James SwansonThe London Eye Mystery by Siobhan DowdFever 1793(medical history) by Laurie Halse Anderson
I don't think The Da Vinci Code would be appropriate (unless he is a very advanced reader and can handle the violence, religious themes, etc).

Good morning,
I am looking for some help from some middle school librarians.  The child of one of our teachers wants to read The Da Vinci Code.  He loves historical mystery.  However, he is only in 7th  grade.  I haven't personally read The Da Vinci Code, but the reviews say there is a lot of adult content in the book.  If you've read The Da Vinci Code, do you think it is appropriate for a 7th grader? If not, can you pass along any similar suggestions that might be more age appropriate.
Thanks for your help!!
