Diana, I am in a HS, and I emphasize information literacy and research skills. I would look closely at the district and try to identify how they use the media center. Demographics and town history, budget stability, all those things matter. Some look for change, some say that but don’t mean it, some don’t really understand how a sharp person can add value. For elem it seems to be love of reading and early literacy skill sets. For middle it can be a toss up between whatever they see their need to be. My wisdom thought is that they just need to like you - see themselves working with you. Be yourself. And you have to see the fit too. Many are looking for younger shiny new tech tech people, others it’s not so apparent. And of course, try to stay where you are in the uncertain times. With fall changes into uncharted waters, who knows what the future role of the LMS is in CT. Each district is so different, and there has been a gap in support at the state level for over a decade. Do your best, think it thru if you get an offer. Think of it as an interesting conversation. Think about what you want to know about them... you’re interviewing them too! Have fun, dress up... imagine a fascinating next chapter. It has been a great adventure for me since leaving the classroom. You can buy processing and cataloging... you can assess collections using the catalog system... your value isn’t in the technical operations side, it’s in you as an educator who creates relationships and supports students learning with all the other adults in the building.
