Does anyone teach students how to use a print dictionary?
Our rotary club gives Miriam Webster dictionaries to the 3rd graders, and
since I observed that they don't know how to find words easily
(alphabetical order and guide words are big challenges), I began teaching
grade 2 students how to use The Scholastic First Dictionary, which has many
fewer words, as a preparation. But it only has easy words that students
know, so it doesn't effectively demonstrate that dictionaries are for
learning the meaning of a words you don't know.

I'm curious what others do.
