Collins Dictionary: the definitions use simple and direct language but students may be distracted by the adds and the word collection includes ALL words in the English language so it depends on your grade level.

> Our rotary club gives Miriam Webster dictionaries to the 3rd graders, and since I observed that they don't know how to find words easily (alphabetical order and guide words are big challenges), I began teaching grade 2 students how to use The Scholastic First Dictionary, which has many fewer words, as a preparation. But it only has easy words that students know, so it doesn't effectively demonstrate that dictionaries are for learning the meaning of a words you don't know.
