[CASL-L] book clubs for remote learners

I've led a couple of book clubs for my grade 6 - 9 students. For our *Stamped
*book club (coincided with Global Read Aloud), we used Google Slides. Many
of them uploaded photos with speech bubbles at the beginning of the club
with their thoughts before reading and we did the same at the end with our
final takeaways. All of our resources were kept organized in the Slides. We
met about 4 times via Zoom.

Our second club is for *The Rent Collector. * Since we all read the book at
different times over our long Winter Recess, I made a Jamboard and
students/teachers kept track of their "Quotes & Notes" as they read. We
meet this Wednesday at 12:15 pm EST. That's super late for our Chinese
participants, but that's what they wanted. My clubs include students from
other countries, so time zone differences makes it extra tricky!

Overall, I let students do as much of the talking as possible. We have all
enjoyed our meetings so much. We picked up a few more students for *The
Rent Collector.*

*Enjoy,*

*~Val*
