[CASL-L] Subbing due to lack of coverage

At our high school, any uncovered classes are sent to the library; some days we have none and other days we might have 5 teachers' classes.  When there is that many we often close the library to other students since we also have assigned study halls in our space too.  So lots of bodies.  Very fortunately, we have 2-4 duty teachers assigned to the study halls and for the expected overflow so they take on most of the burden but it is still an overwhelming time and we don't get much done as far as library work.

Dear colleagues—

How many of you spent a portion of the past week as a substitute because of the lack of classroom coverage by actual substitutes? It’s worse than ever this year, and not only when media specialists are covering classes, but also when one substitute covers multiple classes without coverage in the Media Center. Today we had one substitute covering six teachers’ classes in the MC, closed to all other students. It’s unfair to students, teachers, and substitutes, and I’m wondering how much worse it is in other districts.
