We have had a literacy committee for a long time (13 years?) at Silas Deane MS but last year we did not meet. Hoping to get started again next month.

Agenda to start-We look at prior events, decide what to keep or change, and plan at least one activity a month for the year. We have invited and looped in our public teen librarian and have at times had a few students join us and help plan. We have had health, science, social studies, art, and ELA teachers on the committee in the past.

Some of the activities we’ve done are: fall into a good book (apples, cider, drop everything and read) cafe, literary pumpkin painting, hot cocoa cafe (virtual fireplace, hot chocolate), recycled book art, author visits, book discussions, love a book cafe (valentine themed), march madness brackets, read across america events, nutmeg battle of books, digital escape rooms and more. Most are done after school.

We are at the elementary level, but some of the activities include an author visit, a writing contest, one book one school, etc. Hope this helps.
