[CASL-L] High School Incentive Prizes

Good morning!

I'm wondering what types of incentive prizes any of the secondary school
librarians have been allowed to give away in the past.
Last year I was "allowed" to give away a Kindle Paperwhite as a prize for
our Winter Reading Challenge, but now our district business office is
pushing back that it is not an appropriate use of municipal funds.
Can anyone tell me if they have ever given away a "bigger-type" prize like
this, paid with budgetary funds? It would help if I had examples to back up
my case.
