Stephanie--
Our students read LIBRARY books most when there is an assignment tied to
that reading. (They read all kinds of things outside of the library, if
they are readers, and many have access to plenty of books on their own.) I
have outside reading assignments tied to AP Gov, Honors Civics, Forensic
Science, and many others. For instance, 9th Grade science teachers require
all students to read a book where the physical environment shapes the story
in some way, so I get lots of checkouts. AP Literature and Contemporary
Authors also require students to choose fiction books in
various categories.
We also have a mandatory Capstone research class for all Seniors that
requires them to cite a book, so that drives nonfiction circs for sure!
I've been working on some new book clubs this year, DURING the school day
at lunch, focused on mystery and romance, but I'm giving out the books for
free.
Happy to share any of my collaborations in any way I can!
