[CASL-L] [EXTERNAL] Re: Helping kid remember to return their books

Hi Martha and All,

I am at a high school and we definitely struggle with this regularly.
We've found that adding some visual reminders has helped. We added a cart
outside the library doors for returned items and a sign at the circulation
desk that says "Today's checkouts are due back ______". We also send
reminders bi-weekly on Destiny about overdue items. I find that my
presence as the librarian will often spark students to remember books. If
I'm working in a class and a student sees me, they'll ask if they can give
me back a library book or I'll often ask before heading back to the
library if anyone has returns. (So many of our students walk around with
them in their backpacks and forget to return them.) It's an ongoing
struggle and definitely not a one-size-fits-all approach, so I hope others
will keep adding to this thread.

Take care,
Jessica
