The Sun and You
So you and your library patrons had a wonderful eclipse experience? Don't let that feeling go! Whether you basked in the awesome phenomenon of totality, or you just had fun making crafts and watching the NASA livestream, strike while the iron is hot! NASA is taking all of 2024 to celebrate the Big Year in Heliophysics, the study of the Sun and its effects on everything in the solar system, including you. So you can still engage your community in wonderful STEAM events, such as the Parker Solar Probe touching the Sun on December 24.

A Day with the Stars

On July 20th, 1969 the Apollo 11 Lunar Module "Eagle" landed on the moon, and Commander Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin took their first steps on the lunar surface. Fifty-four years later, on July 20th, 2023, students of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carson at King Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science, as well as 2nd-6th grade students at 186th Street Elementary, took their first steps into the world of astrophysics in a Girls STEAM Ahead with NASA (GSAWN)-supported event called "A Day with the Stars."

"The STAR Library Network <https://t.e2ma.net/click/687ghj/6094u8/astd53> (STAR Net) is a hands-on learning network for libraries and their communities across the country. STAR Net focuses on helping library professionals build their STEM skills by providing "science-technology activities and resources" (STAR) and training to use those resources.

STAR Net is built upon a strong network of collaborators and partners, led by the Space Science Institute's (SSI) National Center for Interactive Learning (NCIL).
Funding is provided by the National Science Foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, NASA Office of STEM Engagement, and the NASA Science Mission Directorate.
