Good Morning CT Libraries,
CLC HAPPENINGS
Last chance to register for the CLC Leader to Leader Retreat<https://www.ctlibrarians.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1872738&group=>. This event is just for library directors (of all types, public, academic, special and school!) It's not professional development, it's about resetting, recharging and restoring your leadership practice. Registration closes on Thursday.
We have the Demco Book Doctor coming on Thursday to the Scranton Library in Madison. There are a few spots left in the one hour morning<https://www.ctlibrarians.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1874340> workshop. The three hour afternoon workshop<https://www.ctlibrarians.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1874342> has one spot left.
NEWS OF NOTE
Bloomfield native and author Anika Noni Rose speaks at the ALA Annual Conference. <https://americanlibrariesmagazine.org/blogs/the-scoop/nobodys-perfect/> "She told the crowd she still remembers the smell of Bloomfield (Conn.) Public Library's Prosser Library from her youth. "I remember when you had to look up a book not by using a computer but by getting a paper cut," Rose joked. "Being at the library was like being at an amusement park. You could get everything at the library, and there was no time limit. You could be there for hours.""
I am sharing this article, but it is extremely difficult and upsetting to read. Police release more details on child pornography charges against North Branford Library employee.<https://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/article/guilford-north-branford-employee-arrest-warrant-19666765.php>
Southbury estimates $100M in damage from flooding, including at the library.<https://www.newstimes.com/news/article/southbury-leaders-sen-blumenthal-discuss-flood-19723627.php>
A bit more on Wilton Library's new Writer-In-Residence.<https://www.thehour.com/news/article/wilton-library-inaugural-writer-in-residence-19715109.php>
Pictures from the annual book sale at the Mark Twain Library in Redding. <https://www.newstimes.com/news/article/redding-library-mark-twain-book-fair-sale-2024-19713982.php>
The Connecticut State Library works to preserve the stories of WWII veterans. <https://www.stamfordadvocate.com/connecticut/article/ct-vanishing-wwii-veteran-history-project-19660332.php>
Sandra Enimil of Yale Libraries quoted in this national NPR piece on library ebook pricing and licensing. <https://www.npr.org/2024/08/29/nx-s1-5091277/e-books-are-expensive-for-libraries-some-states-are-trying-to-change-that>
If you or your library is in the news and I miss it, drop me a line!
Have a good week,
Ellen
