Good Morning CT Libraries, here is what is going on this week.
CLC HAPPENINGS
Small Libraries roundtable<https://www.ctlibrarians.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1929643> meets today at 10am to talk about fostering staff wellness.
Thursday we have a vendor webinar with Junior Library Guild (JLG)<https://www.ctlibrarians.org/events/EventDetails.aspx?id=1927281> where they'll be sharing the children's and YA titles that they're excited about for spring and summer.
Also on Thursday, I'll be speaking a panel for ALA Core with other consortia leaders from around the country about library consortia as advocates.<https://ala-events.zoom.us/meeting/register/_rXYrHy_S_Okc6lIgxTlgQ#/registration>
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
eBooks
* HB 6958<https://cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&bill_num=HB-6958> is in the Planning and Development Committee and could come up for committee vote at any time.
* S.B. 1234<https://cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&which_year=2025&bill_num=1234> was voted out of the Government Administration and Elections Committee it can now make its way to the floor for a full Senate vote. As I recall from last year, the bill was taken up on the floor and then immediately sent to the judiciary committee before coming back to the floor later in session. Will that happen again this year? I don't know, we'll have to wait and see.
Budget
* Nothing to note.
Freedom to Read
* SB 1271<https://cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&bill_num=SB-1271> was not voted on in the Children's committee last week. There is a children's committee meeting on Thursday afternoon but I don't see an agenda yet. Again, my guess is that this bill will be amended in the children's committee before they vote on it.
* HB 7014<https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&bill_num=HB07014&which_year=2025> had another epically long public hearing last week. You can see the video of the hearing here<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Wzhu5LYeFc>.
