Please excuse the duplicate posting.

Librarians, advocates, and allies—*we need your voice now.* CT's *Library
Freedom to Read Act (SB 1271)*
<https://casl.wildapricot.org/EmailTracker/LinkTracker.ashx?linkAndRecipientCode=WSPexufFaKR%2bUipPsVmAT49aJIL%2bzi5X5EvPnz7w3XKYqjun4Z02UawMIh9aE%2bE7lzRZPsB8JATgO2UyE36qCXoK%2brpKt2LguQNaQLqGOSQ%3d>
is
ready to move forward, but it needs to be *called to the floor for a vote.*

*Contact your CT State Representative and Senator today* and ask them to
support SB 1271 and to urge leadership to call it to the floor.

This bill is *more urgent than ever.* On May 24, 2025, the Fifth Circuit
Court of Appeals issued a devastating ruling in a 10–7 decision that
threatens the very foundation of intellectual freedom in public libraries.
The court declared that public library patrons have *no First Amendment
right to access books*—and that library collection decisions can be based
solely on viewpoint discrimination, immune from constitutional scrutiny.

This ruling paves the way for *government censorship of library
collections* and
undermines decades of precedent protecting the freedom to read. Connecticut
must take a stand. SB 1271 is our chance to *proactively affirm the rights
of readers and protect our libraries* from similar attacks.

*Here's what you can do today:*

   1. Find your legislators at:

   2. Call or email them *today*. It's OK to keep it brief!
   3. Urge them to *support SB 1271* and to ask leadership to *call it to
   the floor for a vote.*

*Libraries are not political battlegrounds—they are community anchors
grounded in access, equity, and the freedom to read.*

*Let’s make sure Connecticut stays that way.*
