[CASL-L] CASL-L Digest, Vol 12, Issue 170

We have gone from 1:1 to carts in classrooms. It works fairly well for T's although CB's are found in the wrong carts and wrong rooms quite frequently.

We have seniors gain community service hours by checking carts after school to find those that are missing or in the wrong carts.

For me and my secretary, though, it's a managerial chore. Students are able to come to the MC 15 minutes before the end of the day to borrow CB's overnight and keeping track of them takes a lot of time out of our day.

If anyone is using a different system, I'd love to hear about it.

My admin asked me to find out if any other middle schools are talking or moving in the less-tech direction. It was a big topic at the incoming middle school parent meeting yesterday.
My admin specifically asked about other schools going back to having a 'class set' or a cart model, and are assuming this would also mean a move to all non digital hw (according to them).
Any insight appreciated!

Hi Jenny!

Thanks for sharing this article. Our district just developed a Tech Vision committee to examine the research and best practices around this topic. We met once, and will meet several times next year, but one of the focuses is defining purposeful use of technology and what that looks like in practice.

It will be interesting to follow the progression of this issue in the media and within districts!

Have a great day,

Angela

Hi all - I'm catching up with emails and would love to have a conversation about this. At some ACES meetings I've been attending, I've heard about CT districts that are cutting all tech for K-2, which seems to me a little reactive.

This post from AJ Juliani really resonated with me. Good Morning,

I have been having so many conversations with other educators about how it would be so nice to have more of a balance between tech and analog teaching and learning.

This was a recent article about reducing chromebooks in schools that was very timely.
