Dorothy,

Again, Tampa Bay Watch, wants to extend our appreciation for your ongoing support. The gift of $2,400 from the Tampa Bay Parrot Heads will continue to help our restoration efforts for our habitat. Currently, we have been installing oyster domes at McKay Bay and this week will be at MacDill Airforce Base. It takes a lot of dollars and manpower (each dome weighs 220 lbs.). These oyster domes will create a barrier to prevent shore erosion as well as filter the water. One oyster can filter 2 to 10 gallons of water in one hour! By protecting our estuary, we enjoy the production of marine life so...thank you again!

Wishing you and all the Parrot Heads a lovely holiday.

Cheers,
Pamela

BTW...Please see the photo in last week's eNewsletter that reaches 16,000 subscribers.

Focus on: Red-Breasted Merganser
[http://content.delivra.com/etapcontent//TampaBayWatch/redbreastedmerganser1.jpg]
During the winter months, many animals migrate to warmer regions of the world to avoid the deep cold that envelopes the areas furthest from the equator. Here in Tampa Bay, we are fortunate to be one these warmer regions and see hundreds of migratory animals every year, including the Red-Breasted Merganser. This duck inhabits both fresh and salt water and is one of the fastest birds in the world during level flight. They have been clocked at 100 mph!

Join us at MacDill Air Force Base
Oyster dome installation on 12/6, 12/7, & 12/8
[Article Image]
Tampa Bay Watch is recruiting volunteers to install oyster domes on the shoreline of MacDill Air Force Base on December 6, 7, & 8 from 9am - noon on each day. This project involves heavy lifting of approximately 75 pounds, as each oyster dome weighs around 150 pounds. Each dome will be installed with two people sharing the weight and unloading the domes from a trailer onto the shoreline.

The goal of Tampa Bay Watch’s Community Oyster Reef Enhancement (CORE) program is to increase the oyster population in Tampa Bay and at the same time, provide habitats for small organisms, prevent erosion, improve water quality and promote fish and wildlife habitats.

We will meet within MacDill Air Force Base. Driving directions will be emailed to you in a reminder message prior to the event. The minimum age to participate is 18 years old. You must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and car insurance to drive onto the base. We'll ask you for some personal info in the volunteer registration process: your full name, the state who issued your driver's license, driver's license number, & the expiration date of your driver's license for MacDill's security clearance.

We are recruiting 10-20 hard-working volunteers to help build oyster domes at our Marine Center, 3000 Pinellas Bayway South<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmaps.google.com%2F%3Fq%3D3000%2BPinellas%2BBayway%2BSouth%26entry%3Dgmail%26source%3Dg&data=02%7C01%7C%7C53d47b2f6bd644feb17508d53bff179c%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636480889151863498&sdata=H6wHhbMezA8tO8QHLVQ0eWD1YbxCoc2D5XGQ0m92pBw%3D&reserved=0> in Tierra Verde. The project takes place on specified weekday mornings from 9 am until noon. The minimum age to participate in this project is 16 years old. The project involves pouring marine-friendly concrete into fiberglass molds to create oyster domes and taking apart the molds that were previously poured.
