We require all new hires, providers, volunteers and others we screen to have documentation of one Tdap per CDC recommendations and guidelines for healthcare workers.
We don't administer additional tetanus vaccinations unless the individual has had a work related injury (sharps, needle stick, other) and CDC guidelines recommended it be administered. We would administer Tdap since it's the only tetanus vaccine we carry.
We do not provide tetanus boosters to staff seeking to update their routine (every 10 years) personal health vaccinations as this is not work related. We refer them to their personal provider who would determine which tetanus vaccine they needed.
While we do have pregnant employees, providers, volunteers and others we do not provide Tdap in the 3rd trimester of every pregnancy as recommended by OBGYN's. This is outside the scope of our practice as this is not considered a work related event.
Our standing orders determine what populations and in what situations we can provide immunizations and helps us let staff know what we can and can't do for them.

When an employee (new or existing) had a TdaP 10+ years ago, do you give a Td or another TdaP? If just a Td, what about those in obstetrics or the ED? I know CDC says Td, but I'm seeing a lot of family practice providers giving a 2nd TdaP. Thank you for any guidance you can provide.
