[MCOH-EH] MCOH-EH Digest, Vol 253, Issue 268 Color Vision

Johnson, Cathreen CaJohnson at coh.org
Wed Oct 24 10:39:14 PDT 2018

Hello,

all our employees are screened, and then if color deficient:

With nursing we have our nurses look at the UA dipsticks with another person. For other areas we have the supervisors review any potential areas of concern. We do not have any color deficient pharmacists at this time. Sterile processing needs to be able to distinguish the Sterilization/ non sterile packages and the instruments tagged with different colors, this is done with their managers before any accommodation process would be started.
Thank you,
Cathreen

Cathreen,
Thank you for information. To clarify, you do not routine repeat color vision testing, only when there is a specific concern witnessed/reported by a co-worker or manager?
Thank you,
Darlene

We do it for ALL new hires. The lab verifies that it is done during their CAP survey.

In a recent MOCK survey, color vision was a hot topic.
I am curious if any repeat color vision testing on employees after the on boarding HA process? If so, could you share your policy, protocol and process ?

We use CaraFlow QYK scanners for our flu shots and wellness events in which our employees get points for participation towards monetary incentives. We do have two analysts that set up the scanners, create database codes and troubleshoots. We are also purchasing the wireless feature so our wellness team can upload their events without having to physically bring their scanners to EHS.

We have had very little issues with our scanners, but our analysts are readily available to trouble shoot and set up the codes and are skilled in uploading the data and sending files to our wellness platform. We have six scanners. It saves a lot of data entry time for flu shots, allows us to upload daily to ensure leadership is getting accurate flu shot compliance reports daily via our IT interface report.

Hello,

What devices are clinics using for medication administration (ex. Flu shots)?

We are currently using CaraFlow and want to investigate other alternatives.

Thanks,
