We do baseline HCV Ab VL , ALT/SGPT and repeat HCV VL, ALT, SPGT at 3 - 4 weeks, if source is not also HIV +. If source is also HIV + we take it out to 6 months.
Our lab is equipped to detect minor levels of virus for both HCV and HIV as our patient population is considered a high risk population.

I'd like to hear how others are managing post-exposure with a source patient who shows REACTIVE HCV antibody and HCV RNA DETECT/QUANT 200,000+. Do you typically perform a baseline panel on employee with a repeat in 6 weeks, 4 months, and 6 months. Other than counseling the patient to practice safe sex and report any symptoms, is there anything else you would recommend?
