[MCOH-EH] Covid Vaccination and HHE

Hi Amelia, there are 2 parts to your question as I understand it.

1. Should vaccinated people quarantine after a significant exposure? Yes, for now continue this practice. The vaccine is not 100% effective, requires 2 doses then 2 more weeks to achieve full immune response, and we don’t yet know exactly how it impacts the acquisition of asymptomatic – but potentially contagious – infection. More forthcoming and I understand there is some good news about this in the Moderna VRBPAC briefing document, but I haven’t had time to find it yet.

2. Can quarantined HCP work in patient care? Yes if the facility needs them to mitigate a critical staffing shortage, as long as OK with their state/territorial public health authority. Some states have additional requirements for HCP working while on quarantine, such as restrictions on working with immunocompromised patients or a requirement for serial testing.

I hope that helps!

Melanie

I am imagining to do your civic duty to quarantine exposures, those with symptoms and positives reguardless of the vaccine status. It is not going to be a cure-all, and you wouldn’t want people exposed. Just like the flu vaccine isn’t perfect we can’t expect this to be magic, or a virus not to mutate….

Happy Hump Day,
Curious what others will do with people that have been vaccinated and then have a household exposure. Will they still quarantine or could they work under modified quarantine?
