Interesting discussion on color vision, and also pertinent for pharma labs. There was book published a while ago on the topic and reviewed in JOEM (attached).* At least in the past, OSHA did not report that any of their regs required it.

We found that color vision is very rarely an essential function in the lab. Manual Differential on CBC was one task and we created a practical test if anyone has abnormal color vision. The most common task requiring color vision was actually in the clinic setting with interpreting urine “dipsticks”. We also created a practical follow-up test for this.

Our lab accreditation surveyors require annual color vision testing. Not sure why it has to be annual, but lab educator does the annual testing.
We do color vision on all team members as it is part of our TITMUS vision test . We don’t have an issue with accommodating team members who are color blind in most cases.
Our surveyors always seem to ask for color vision testing on new hries, mostly related to Point of Care testing. A lot doesn’t make sense, but its easier for us to just test all on hire so we have the documentation.

I don’t know a complete list but historically kidney center/dialysis staff who provide direct clinical care have required color vision testing and ability at my affiliated institution
