[MCOH-EH] ending universal masking

We adjusted masking in our healthcare system on 4/10.  Ambulatory settings have moved to masks optional.  Inpatient settings have required masking in patient rooms and anywhere that a patient is receiving care, i.e. medical imaging and other testing areas.  For other departments on the inpatient side, masking is optional unless a visitor or patient is ill.

We do have mandatory masking for those with approved COVID-19 exemptions.  There is no plan to discontinue that unless the CMS rule changes.  We have had state surveyors request our COVID data and pull individual records when here for other survey purposes, so something would have to change for us to discontinue.  We previously tried weekly testing and mandatory N95’s and feel this is the current best solution for us.

managing universal masking after 5/11/23.

We currently have universal masking for all and are working on what we will do in the near future based on CDC and DPH guidance.  We also require those with covid vaccine exemptions to mask and trying to determine if we will continue to require them to mask when others are no longer required to mask.  Curious what others are planning.

Is your organization ending universal masking or have you ended already?
Are you continuing to require masking in certain departments?
For those who have approved covid vaccine exemptions - will you require them to mask after the pub health emergency ends?
