Learning in an Age of Mobilism: Addressing the Barriers of Mobile Learning
Thursday, March 15th - 4pm Eastern Time

In This Session
Every week, over 15,000 apps are released into mobile app marketplaces. Mobile
technologies are being adopted faster than any technology in the history of this
planet. It has been predicted that by 2015, every child in every class in every
school will be using a mobile learning device for curricular purposes, 24/7.
K-12 schools simply won’t be able to sit out the mobile technologies
revolution. Students, not the adults, are bringing the computing devices into
the schools. Schools are going to have to make a choice: be planful or be
overwhelmed. In our community’s’ next webinar, University of North Texas’
Cathleen Norris and University of Michigan’s Elliot Soloway will describe the
key barriers to the adoption of mobile technologies in K-12 and equip you with
strategies for addressing those barriers. Challenges to be covered include lack
of vision, lack of funding, lack of curriculum, lack of assessment tools, among
others. Join Cathleen and Elliot on March to learn how to advance mobile
learning in your school or district.

About the Presenters
Cathleen Norris is a Regents Professor in the College of Information, Department
of Learning Technologies at the University of North Texas. Cathie’s 14 years in
K-12 classrooms – and receiving Dallas’ Golden Apple Award – has shaped her
university research agenda: helping teachers to more effectively employ mobile
technologies in the 21st century classroom. She is a Past President of both the
International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), and the National
Educational Computing Association (NECA). Cathie is co-founder of GoKnow, Inc.,
a company that supports K-12 in using mobile learning devices.

Elliot Soloway is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor in the Dept of CSE, College of
Engineering, School of Education and School of Information, University of
Michigan. For the past 10 years, Elliot’s research has been guided by the vision
that low-cost, mobile, networked devices are the only way to truly achieve
universal 1:1 in schools. He has received his college’s “Distinguished Teacher
of the Year Award” twice as well as the “Golden Apple Award.” Elliot is a
co-founder of GoKnow, Inc, and the current Chair of ISTE’s Special Interest
Group on Mobile Learning.
