[CASL-L] Student ceiling due date

Do you have Destiny? I do not allow books to go out after June 1 and it takes 3 weeks to collect them all. Every afternoon we announce the number of books still out. Presently, there are 205 books out. I had started at 1045. Teachers are given class lists to help stay on top. The circulation system we have makes it very easy to run a report/list to contact teachers. Starting today we will send home notes. The most delinquent book notices are mailed with a note that we will be keeping report cards if books are not returned or paid. Usually we have to hold 4 report cards. Inventory is best done when books are out because the card catalog system will count books that are out and that means less books to actually touch for inventory. Our problem is there is never enough time while the library is the busiest.

My scenario is also similar to Eva's and Elaine's, except I have half the population, and no assistant. The assistant principal has asked for updated lists of missing books, but I do not know if he is working on that. At this point, I will start to email parents. That is fairly effective, although quite time-consuming. I have started doing inventory in reference and non-fiction, since most of those books are on the shelf -- somewhere!

I have a similar time frame, and never get all the books back. We used to withhold report cards until the book came back or was paid for but are no longer allowed to.
Are there any creative ideas out there to get books returned?

This is how long it takes me to get materials returned from students and staff in preparation for inventory. Recently I was asked to consider extending this date. I would like to do this, but already struggle with getting all materials back in two weeks. Also, we are open for business on the first day of school each year. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to successfully do this without running out of time to get materials returned before students leave for the summer. The library is still opened to students after the student ceiling due date for computer use and for looking at magazines; we supervise students through the last day of school.
