Hi Todd,

If you visit our website, under "Going Google" there are sections related
to your question. I think you will find other useful information to help
you guys with other guidelines related to going 1:1. Pay attention to #4
under the "Chromebook handbook" (using your chromebook at school).
Teachers take the first step in calling home, then we call home and disable
them if they are not bringing them to school (we don't want students using
them to watch Netflix at home, but don't bother to bring them in for school
work). I know we contact the dean (which handles discipline issues) if it
becomes a chronic issue. Teachers fill out a google form that is pushed
out to their desktops when a student does not have their CB more than once,
we check this and disable/call home as needed (should be checked daily).

Devices are only lent to students if theirs is in what we call "sick bay"
(being repaired due to broken screens, bad ports, keys, etc). Students
must have a loaner agreement form filled out giving permission from their
parents to take out a loaner while theirs are being repaired. Under no
circumstances do we allow students to borrow chromebooks or chargers (this
becomes a huge issue with compliance to our original expectations that they
need to be responsible for bringing a fully charged CB to school each day
(if they can charge their phones, they can charge their CBs). We do not
want to be enablers. Managing loaners each day for students who forget
them is a nightmare (we have tried doing that in the past and it does NOT
work well), especially for 1500 students. Sometimes teachers allow
students to use their phones if they don't have their CB on a specific day,
but that is preference for the teacher.

Teachers or other staff members such as guidance counselors or admins can
take out loaners or borrow a charger if they need them under special
circumstances (if they need one themselves or if they are running a special
event).

Hope this helps. Call me if you want to chat or need more info.

Good luck!
