Good morning, CASL members.

Please join us for two great events on Tuesday, November 20:

Student Data Privacy
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Multiple Locations and Online

Join Gwen Zittoun<http://www.shipmangoodwin.com/gzittoun> of Shipman & Goodwin LLP and me for an engaging, interactive discussion on K - 12 data privacy in CT. We will cover the basics and some nuances of national and state student data privacy laws. District technology and special education leaders will want to hear about the reporting requirements introduced this year, and how the Commission is helping to support those obligations.

As the kickoff event of CEN's 2018 education series, the talk will take place in Hartford with simulcasts at five other locations across the state. Come early and stay after for Q&A and peer-to-peer networking.

The Commission's year-long Webinar series on the ISTE standards starts this month. The first session provides an insightful introduction to the Student, Educator, and Leader competencies by ISTE's standards director. You will also learn from inspiring Connecticut educators on how to put the standards into practice. Our guests include national and state leaders:

  * Carolyn Sykora<https://connect.iste.org/people/carolyn-sykora>, Senior Director for Standards, ISTE
  * Christopher Weiss, Principal, Riverside School (Greenwich) and winner of the 2018 ISTE Administrator Network Award for Exemplary Leadership<https://www.greenwichsentinel.com/2018/07/12/riverside-school-principal-receives-iste-award/>
  * Kurt Stanco, Principal; Tom Reed-Swale, Assistant Principal; Clare Neseralla, STEM Coach; and Ann Gargula, Library Media Specialist of CREC's Discovery Academy<http://da.crecschools.org/> in Wethersfield

We will equip you with some great examples of the standards in action, advocacy tools to support adoption, and great free resources to make digital learning a reality in your school or district.
