[MCOH-EH] medical marijuana--in MA

Phil,

We too are seeing our first encounters with employee candidates who have medical marijuana certificates in the State of Connecticut. We are looking at this as primarily a prescription for a narcotic, and council the employee as such at their physical. We review the prescription, confirm its validity, and pay particular attention to the frequency of use. They are obviously counseled not to take the medication while at work, or immediately prior to work, and discuss the indications for usage. Safety sensitive positions have not been addressed at this time, but we are running these scenarios through legal council as we speak.

        Hello all

We are grabbling with the decision to hire individuals who have a medical marijuana certificate. We are looking at a “case by case basis” and also the safety nature of the job. realizing that the MA law states that employers do not have to hire candidates on medical marijuana—what is the policy of your hospital?

Thanks,
