Agreed. For these reasons we do not use EPIC software for employee health but bought from an external company until they can perfect their “break the glass”
EPIC currently cannot give us what we need with maintaining confidentiality.

   1. Re: EMR Question (Rainey, Richard)
Besides restricting access you need strong policy on who can look at what, and for what purpose. An audit trail is also useful.
A different issue can arise if an employee becomes a patient and access to their employee health record might be relevant to their care.

That?s also what they have mentioned to us as well. Ultimately, if you can restrict chart access for Employee Health staff to only see visits related to Employee Health and restrict the rest of the house from seeing Employee Health related visits, it protects the confidentiality piece with GINA. Epic has the capability of doing this depending on how your organization has set up your Epic environment. From my understanding, every organization?s Epic instance is set up differently.

Yes,
Interestingly; the EPIC folks told me that they leave the legality of what the implementation scheme is up to the user.

If you have access to the Epic UserWeb, I recommend you take a look at the Employee Health implementation presentation that Memorial Healthcare System in South Broward, FL completed in 2018 XGM.

It was a great presentation and has us doing a double check if this set up could work for us.

If you currently don?t have access to the Epic UserWeb, I recommend reaching out to your IT department to get access. There are a few great resources to look at how other organizations have set up their Employee Health department in Epic.

Does anyone use Epic for their occupational medicine EMR?
We are under pressure to try and use it because of the investment our organization (Lifespan) has put into it.
My look is that it wont work for our needs.
Thanks

I used it at Dow Chemical. Loved it. Very user friendly. I am not aware of any hospitals that use it but many corporations do.
