[MCOH-EH] Fit testing for employee who brings own respirator to work

For Oregon, we are not required to conduct medical clearance or fit testing for voluntary use. Oregon matches the Federal standard closely but it's worth verifying your specific state's plan if established. For voluntary use, employers are required to provide a copy of Appendix D to 1910.134 though. If voluntary respirators are allowed, other considerations include: evaluating to ensure the respirator doesn't create a hazard for the tasks being performed and/or if there are environmental factors that the worker feels exist which require the respirator.

Good evening everyone,

Unusual situation - in this new COVID-19 era, an employee whose work is administrative in nature wants to use their own N95 at work evening though only a surgical mask is needed.

If we allow that, are we required to do medical clearance and for testing for her?

Thank you,

Craig Thorne, M.D.
