We do drug testing as part of the onboarding process once an candidate has signed accepting the position. It is quick and easy. Our HR does the drug testing when the incumbent comes in for finger printing and ID verifications. We use it in Employee Health for post occurrence and suspicion.

We use a product called Intercept Oral Fluid Drug Test & Assays from OraSure Technologies. It requires sending the sample to their lab for resulting and follow up. OraSure has training and certification online. I do not know if DOT has approved the use as we do not do DOT at this time.

We also use their Q.E.D. Saliva Alcohol Test for POC testing on employees for post occurrences and suspicion. We have been impressed at how accurate it has been when compared to our blood alcohol tests.

We have the ORALTox Rapid Oral Fluid Drug Test but have not utilize them very much. It was thought we may have to use them as our state approved marijuana recreational use and we had not. Our leadership purchased as they wanted real time quick POC results that included marijuana. Shortly after our shipment came the Hospital Board decided we were not going to test for marijuana use after all.

Sincerely Your Employee Health Nurse.

Subject: [MCOH-EH] Drug Testing

Our health system is evaluating our drug testing program and was interested in what other health care systems were doing.
Do you do drug testing?
Is it part of your preplacement process and is it a rate limiting step?
Do you outsource to a Labcore or a Qwest type vendor?
Do you test for nicotine and if you do what do you do with the results?
Thank you very much for your input.
